I am seeking information on my grandfather who immigrated to America in the late 1800’s and I am getting a lot of “all records were lost in WWII bombings”. I have to believe there is some record of my family still there. Can you help me find it.
My grandfather’s name was Emil Kuntzsch…he changed it to Emil Kuntsch and eventually to Emil Kunsch.
I have hit a roadblock and am very frustrated.
I assume that you are referring to the his German records? Where in Germany was he from? Depending upon what part of Germany he was from determines when the civil registrations were started. Generally, the farther east, the later the registrations were required. However, churches were required to send duplicate records to a civil record keeping facility. I highly suggest reading the research guide below for any German records. If you can’t see the link, just copy and paste it into your browser. Good luck!
