We live in Central Pennsylvania and neither of us have any clue how to go about researching native ancestry. She is (supposedly) Shawnee and Susquehannock. HELP!
http://familysearch.org has a Family Tree section that allows you to build your tree until you get matches that will help identify your heritage. Heritage (formerly GenCircles) has merged with Geni.com and does a good job of making connections. Family History Libraries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can be located at http://lds.org. Workers there are very helpful and access to Ancestry.com and other Premium sites are free while at the library. Many public libraries also have Heritage Quest and/or Ancestry.com for their patrons. On many occasions the emails of fellow contributors are posted and can develop into lifelong pen pals and the location of near relatives.
